Don't waste money on broken rings ever again. Universal clamp-style compressors don't compress the rings uniformly. This can cause the ring to catch on the cylinder bore and break.

A tapered ring compressor creates a uniform surface for the rings to compress against as the piston is installed. It is critical that this surface is smooth and hardened to prevent the rings from scraping debris into the cylinder. Built Bottom End ring compressors are held to a smoothness tolerance in addition to the black hard anodized coating in the tapered bore.

It’s also important for the size labels to hold up to the abuse and chemicals seen in a garage. The convenient dual-unit, easy to read size labels and logo are laser etched into the black anodizing to provide a permanent way of determining which size compressor you’re using. It won’t rub or chip off during use in the way that lesser-quality silk screened logos will.
